Phlebotomy Technician

Our course provides comprehensive training on various essential topics, including:

  • Different types of blood tubes and collection procedures
  • Laboratory values and safety protocols
  • Proper puncture points
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Safety with needles and quality control
  • 4 hours of HIV/AIDS education and basic CPR review

Upon successful completion of the requirements set forth by Zeal, students will be eligible to sit for certification through a national exam organization. This exam is conducted on-site, and students receive their results on the same day.

This program focuses on laboratory demonstrations and equips students with the following skills:

  • Understand basic anatomy and physiology of body systems, along with medical terminology.
  • Describe phlebotomy duties and practices.
  • Recognize legal and ethical issues in the field.
  • Apply lab safety and infection control measures.
  • Understand the organizational structure of a laboratory.
  • Process and handle specimens effectively.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of blood collection devices and equipment.
  • Execute proper techniques for venipuncture, capillary, and dermal draws.
  • Identify pre-analytical errors that can impact specimen quality and lab results.
  • Perform special collection procedures.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal, communication, computer, and documentation skills, along with professionalism.
Day classes
Monday to Thursday
8am to 4pm for 4 weeks

Evening classes
Monday to Thursday
5:30pm to 9:30pm for 7 weeks


A student must enroll at least 2 weeks before class starts.

The Phlebotomy program prepares students for careers as phlebotomists in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient labs, doctor’s offices, insurance companies, clinical research, and independent medical laboratories. Many graduates find employment at organizations such as Lee Health, Lehigh Regional, NCH hospitals, Bayfront Hospital, Fawcett Hospital, and private practices, as well as in laboratory and insurance company roles.
